What Is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is an amazingly effective complete system of medicine that is over 200 years old, and although not that common in the United States, worldwide it is used by over 500 million people. Homeopathy is often confused with natural medicine, Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and others.  Actually, homeopathy stands alone as its own therapeutic system and can be used to treat everything from a sore throat, injury, or stomach bug to more complex ailments such as anxiety/depression, arthritis, and autoimmune disease. It is based on the ancient principle “like heals like”; A substance in nature that causes particular symptoms in a healthy person can relieve those symptoms in someone that is suffering in that same way.

It is gentle and safe and can be used on even the youngest children as well as pets. The remedies used in homeopathy are made from products found in nature and are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. They are prepared in a homeopathic pharmacy, but are available to purchase in many health food stores and online. They are incredibly inexpensive (less than $20 per bottle) especially when compared with the high cost of many conventional medications.

Instead of simply alleviating your symptoms, homeopathy works at a deeper level to solve the underlying imbalance that is keeping you from being well. Homeopathic remedies stimulate your body’s own natural healing system, so that you can achieve a long lasting increase in your overall health.

A unique aspect of homeopathy is that it is holistic and individual. The way you experience your symptoms is very important, as the homeopath will be interested in ALL the symptoms you are experiencing (mental, emotional, and physical). This information is pulled together to reveal a pattern to the homeopath – a pattern of symptoms that show how you are out of balance. The homeopath then looks for substances in nature that match your specific collection of symptoms. Once that match is made, you receive a specific remedy, which stimulates your body and mind toward healing.
